Metal additive manufacturing will spur innovations in downstream steelmaking

There is good reason for downstream steelmakers to be more excited about additive manufacturing, as metal printing technology continues to advance up the curve, enabling more applications today than before, and as increasing adoption across sectors—downstream steelmaking included—will eventually lower investment costs down. The potential for stainless steel printing in domestic applications are particularly intriguing, as we believe it would enable and spur a greater drive to innovate in niche sectors. Downstream steelmakers in Malaysia may have to look as far as Europe, however, to explore metal printing, as the concept of metal printing technology centers have not penetrated the Malaysian market and, as far as we are aware of, not even the Singaporean market.
